The town, realizing the need, a full force of men was at once put to work. Soon the corner where the McConnell Hotel stood was changing from the aspect of a vacant lot to the site of a brick block. By the first of September, in spite of delays, Thanksgiving found it occupied and ready for opening, with Thanksgiving night, there registered 115 names.
